How and why did you become a wedding planner?
After helping to plan some weddings and attending some more, I realized how difficult it was for couples to plan their wedding while juggling their careers and other responsibilities. There seemed a pressing lack of professional wedding planners in Singapore and I felt couples could benefit greatly from a dedicated assistant or planner who could take care of all the details, no matter how big or small, for their once-in-a-lifetime event. I “took the plunge” and found this amazing career that is also my passion.
For a wedding with that “special something”, what can a couple do?
After planning and attending so many weddings, I feel that a wedding is truly special and unique when loved ones contribute in the planning or on the big day. It can be the simple things like a heartwarming speech by a good friend, a performance or a quirky quiz about the couple. Handmade items and favours by the couple add a really personal touch to the wedding that cannot be replicated anywhere else, making their wedding truly meaningful and memorable.
What is a common misconception about planning a dream wedding?
Many couples think that they need a huge budget for the wedding of their dreams. While it is true that they need to know how much they can and are willing to spend, the actual fact is that they just need to know what elements they would like for their wedding and work around their budget.
What is the most important thing couples should know about planning their wedding?
The one thing I always find myself sharing with my couples is this: stay focused on the most important things to you. Prioritizing your wedding budget is essential to avoid getting distracted from what is important. And, while it is nice to have friends and family give you advice about planning your wedding and share their experiences, know the difference between advice and opinions that might divert you from your objectives. It is your big day so you should be the one to decide on what you want. On your wedding day, keep a positive attitude and just be happy because, believe it or not, what and how you are feeling will affect the mood or atmosphere at the events of your big day. And we don’t want to capture glum expressions on camera!
You said that a wedding is truly special and unforgettable when loved ones contribute to the big day. How?
Personally, weddings are most special when guests, or the couple themselves, get involved in the entertainment and other programming aspects. I am always encouraging my couples to get their friends in on the entertainment for their reception. It can be anything from a pre-wedding video, a dance performance or a musical presentation. I am more than happy to provide any assistance in putting them together!
